Hikers have found human remains in the mountainous area where British actor Julian Sands disappeared five months ago, police say.
Police in San Bernardino said the bodies were found on Saturday near Mount Baldy in southern California, and have been referred to investigators for identification next week. The police did not provide any other information.
Actor Julian Sands was reported missing after a mountain trek in the area in January. A week later, his car was found in the local area.
An intense search was launched, but no sand was found.
Last weekend, the police conducted a new search for the 65-year-old. After the inspection, the family made a statement about the disappearance.

– We are so grateful to all the people who worked so hard to find Julian, the statement begins.
We still have Julian in our hearts, along with fond memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of nature and the arts, and as a wonderful actor.
The 65-year-old has starred in a number of Oscar-nominated films such as ‘Room with a View’ which was released in 1985. He also starred in the films ‘Warlock’, ‘Arachnophobia’ and the horror movie ‘Naked Lunch’.
New search
Actor Kevin Ryan, a close friend of Sands, also spoke out about the case after his colleague was reported missing.
Something clearly went wrong, he says, as Sands is among the best walkers he knows.
– He is more than an experienced traveler. I hope he hid somewhere he can’t get out.
