Newcastle did not give up until it scored eight goals against Sheffield United.

Sean Longstaff, Dan Byrne, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak.

You might think this was the lineup, but they are all Newcastle’s top scorers at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

According to Opta, this is the first time in the history of the Premier League that a team has had eight different goalscorers, if one of them does not include the opposing team’s own goals.

In 1989, Liverpool had eight different scorers when Crystal Palace lost 9-0, according to statistician Duncan Alexander. This was before the series was renamed the “English Premier League”.

Manchester United had seven goals against Southampton when they won 9-0 in 2021. So did Chelsea when they thrashed Aston Villa 8-0 in December 2012.
