Queen Sonja joked about the characteristics of the Nordics during the official launch of the Bodo 2024 cultural project.
– Imagine that Norway is once again the host country for a European art capital, and imagine that it is here in Bodø in Nordland. Queen Sonja looks impressive from the stage of the Stormen Cultural Center as she opens the Bodo 2024 cultural project.
She has government support for the project. Throughout the year, more than 1,000 cultural events take place in the northern Norwegian city located at 67 degrees north.
The queen then made fun of the northerner's character.
– tough, strong, directly committed and suspicious of Southerners, eliciting laughs from the audience.
Earlier on Saturday, the Queen visited the Árran360˚ project, the world's largest lavo with a movie screen on an entire interior wall. Lavon is one of the many cultural features on the first day of Bodo's cultural year.
Bodo will be the European Capital of Culture in 2024, as it will be the first time that the title has been awarded to a city north of the Arctic Circle.
The Lavvo project is a blend of indigenous stories and innovative film technology, with the Queen as the first guest of honor to experience the cultural magic.
