Three men charged with the murder of James “White” Bulger

In 2018, Mafia boss and world-renowned detective James “Whitey” Bulger was found lifeless in his prison cell in West Virginia.

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that three men are now charged with the Bulger killing.

The indictment against Photius “Freddy” Jess, Paul J. DiCollero, and Sean McKinnon comes nearly four years after the murder.

Bulger was beaten to death in a prison in October 2018. The charge states that the perpetrators hit Bulger in the head several times and that they caused the death.

The murder occurred on the same day that Bulger arrived at a new prison.

Bulger was serving a life sentence for, among other things, 11 murders from 1973 to 1985.

After Bulger’s murder, questions were raised about how a man known to remain silent towards others in Boston’s criminal community did not receive more protection in prison.

Bulger was the leader of the feared Winter Hill gang in Boston.

He lived a violent life, and died violently, author Dick Lerer, who wrote a book about the notorious criminal gang leader, tells CNN.
