A bee infestation halted the quarterfinals in Indian Wells

The quarter-final match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev was stopped for a rare reason.

When the score was 1-1 in the first set, a huge swarm of bees began flying onto the California court before Alcaraz was about to serve.

Only nine minutes of the match had been played before the Bees invaded the arena.

– Ladies and gentlemen, the match has been stopped due to a bee infestation, announced match referee Mohamed El Hayani, surrounded by bees.

Alcaraz and Zverev ran to the locker rooms for cover as the referee announced the match had been suspended indefinitely. Large segments of the public also felt forced to cover themselves.

It is not known when the match can start again.

  • Alcaraz and Zverev meet for the ninth time. The winner will face Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.
