On Sunday, police officer Liam Trimmer, 29, and his girlfriend celebrated their recent engagement with friends and family in attendance. The ceremony was held at his home outside Perth in Western Australia.

The police chief says Trimmer was a confident and capable young man who had “his whole life ahead of him,” and that it's all sad.

He explains that the entire community is affected by the death of a police officer, regardless of the circumstances of the death.

It is not yet known why Trimmer fell. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
