On Sunday afternoon, the Nordland Police District reported receiving a report of a traffic accident in Vesterålen.

– A wheel loader was driven into the sea at Børøya. The driver left the machine before it plunged into the sea, the report said.

Also, the patrol police have gone to the spot and are investigating.

– There was an accident related to snow removal. The wheel loader is located in the ocean outside an industrial cave. Firefighters are spreading oil slicks around the area. A police update at 2.40pm said Bilberger had been sought for the recovery of the machine.

Runar Brekken at Alf Brekken & Sønner AS confirms that the wheel loader in Stamsund is theirs.

– This is our wheel loader. All that mattered to me was that the driver was fine. Let's replace the machine, says Braken.

He says the accident happened while plowing a brand new industrial canal in Børøya.

– Reportedly slipped and fell on the spot. The wheel loader has passed between the sluice. Bracken tells Lofoten that it is so deep that it cannot be seen from the cave.
