City beat West Ham despite Haaland’s incredible miss

(West Ham – Manchester City 1-3) Long shot by Erling Braut Haaland (23). However, just before the end, he could breathe a sigh of relief when he scored and City maintained their winning streak.

Because on two occasions the efficient Haaland had the chance to score an open goal, but the Norwegian burned the chances.

For a long time it looked like it was going to be a costly affair, but before the quarter-finals Bernardo Silva scored to make it 2-1. Five minutes before the end, the result also came for Haaland when he was alone with the goalkeeper and scored his seventh goal.

In the end, the score was 3-1, thus continuing City’s unbeaten streak. The Manchester Light Blue side have now racked up five wins in five attempts.

-We were effective and patient in the second half. It was an important win after the international break. City coach Pep Guardiola told the BBC that the team showed good team morale.

However, Haaland was not effective. See the stats below.

It was West Ham who went into the break with a 1-0 lead, but it was unbelievable that Manchester City did not score within the first 45 minutes.

Firstly, City had an adventurous quadruple chance, in which Haaland, among others, had a shot towards goal, but it was saved on the goal line.

Soon after, he was in an open goal, but from five meters away he put the ball wide of the target. Haaland touched his face and couldn’t believe his eyes.

And there will be more despair. He had the chance again before half-time. At that time, he was only supposed to shoot the ball into the goal from close range, but the shot was weak and Naif Ajrad was able to stop it on the goal line.

– It is very rare to see Haaland not slipping in this, said Viaplay expert commentator Niels Johan Semp in surprise.

The misses meant that West Ham went into the first half with a lead. Vladimir Coufal crossed into the box, where an unmarked James Ward-Prowse jumped in to make it 1-0.

The equalizing goal came directly in the second half. Jeremy Doku feigned space, before scoring a beautiful 1-1 goal from an angle.

– I have to be honest. “I didn’t think he would be at this level in his second match for City,” Guardiola says of his protégé.

We had many chances in the first half, but we did not score. They scored a goal, I had a bad touch up front, so I got a shot. “We reacted well, we kept playing and scored three goals and had a good game,” says Doku.

The opportunity continued after Doku’s equalizer. First, Julian Alvarez melted a free kick against the post. Then Alphonse Areola blocked an acrobatic shot from Haaland.

But the compensatory goal came in the end, for both City and Haaland.

Julian Alvarez sent the ball into the penalty area past Bernardo Silva. When Naif Aghrid miscalculated, Silva stole the ball and shot it past Areola.

Haaland had the opportunity to steal the goal, but he let the ball bounce into the net without touching it. Maybe it was karma that kicked in ten minutes later.

The Norwegian then played one-on-one with the goalkeeper – through Silva in particular – and finally succeeded in getting the ball past Areola. Thus, Haaland’s seventh goal in the league became a reality.
