Police confirm the presence of a drone over Kårstø

On Friday morning, police confirmed to Stavanger Aftenblad that it was a drone seen in Karstow.

– We didn’t control the drone or its pilot, say police to Stavanger Avtenblad.

As for TV 2, the police won’t confirm it was a drone, but say they assume it was.

– We don’t have concrete fits to start with, so it will be difficult, COO Nikolai Osterheim tells TV 2.

It was defense personnel at the Kårstø plant in Tysvær municipality, near Haugesund, who made the observation Thursday night.

The police do not want to go into what actions they have taken, but say they have significant resources at the scene, are armed, and operate, among other things, by controlling people and vehicles.

No drone was capturedNo one was arrested in the case.

– We collected the information, and the conclusion is that the observation is reinforced against the fact that this was in fact a drone, says Operations Director Victor Finn-Jensen for TV 2.

The police don’t want to say anything about what this information involves.

large processing plant

Kårstø is a processing plant north of Stavanger, with a major role in transporting and processing gas and light oil from the central parts of the Norwegian continental shelf.

– When we receive messages like this, we take it very seriously, says the COO.

Several hypotheses

We are still in the relevant area and have a number of resources to try and verify that note. We had police on both sides of the Boknafjord, says the director of operations just before midnight Thursday.

Fenne-Jensen explains that drones are known to be a private object, and so they take that very seriously.

Police are now working with several hypotheses about who may have controlled the potential drone.

– It could be anything from foreign powers to drone pilots. Between these two extremes, there are other actors who may have done a drone, says Fenne-Jensen.

At 01:30 p.m. on Friday, Fritz Arne Lilliskog reported to the police that the police had now finished operational efforts, but they were continuing their investigation and intelligence track.

The North Sea and Environment Division at Sur-Vest will be responsible for the investigation, says the mission leader.

This department was responsible for investigating the recently observed UAVs. According to the police, they will continue to work on the case on Friday.
