Rock slide in Trollstigen – Slide does not affect opening of tourist trail – NRK Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

On Friday, a rock slide occurred between Glovstein and the base of Trollstigen.

– Ror Wigan tells NRK that it was a hiker in the area who reported the landslide. He is the construction manager at Møre og Romsdal County Municipality and is in charge of the road division.

It was Television 2 He was the first to write about collapse.

We will examine the slide at the end of the week

Trollstigen is a mountain pass on county road 63 between the municipalities of Rauma and Fjord.

It is one of the most popular tourist routes in the country. In 2019, there were over 1.1 million visitors.

Vigan says he is going to the city on Monday to survey the area with the geologists.

– Avalanches usually occur in this area during winter, but such large rockslides are very rare. He says I have been there for 15 years and have never seen anything of this magnitude.

He also said that the shoulder of the road has been damaged by the landslide, but it should not be something that will take a long time to repair.

– It's not a big job. The moment of uncertainty is where the slide came from, and whether the bottom is up, says Wigan.

The road has not yet been opened for the season and is closed with barricades. And in the past there have been many races at different locations in Trollstigen.

– The highway is closed for a reason. We can't deny using nature on foot, but it's wise to be careful, says Wigan.

No delay in opening

Vigan says Friday's landslide probably won't delay the opening of the road.

– Trollstigen has a lot of snow that needs to melt from the summer heat. So let's get this fixed before then, I'm sure.

Road plowing started in mid-April and has now been completed. But it is still uncertain when Trollstigen will be able to open.

– It is absolutely impossible to say. Now there was new snow last week and now there is thick snow that needs to be removed. We have long relied on good heat. Vigan says the reality is at the end of May.
