According to the study, the corona virus appeared in the United States in early December 2019
Scientists have studied 24,000 blood samples and commented: Corona infections in the United States existed before December 2019 – much earlier than previously thought. There is also new knowledge about where the first cases occurred.
D.According to a new study, the corona virus had already appeared in the United States in December 2019, a few weeks before the first confirmed infection in January 2020. The first cases were in the U.S. states of Illinois and Massachusetts, according to Tuesday’s issue of “Medical Infections”. Diseases published by the American National Institutes of Health (NIH).
For their investigation, the scientists examined 24,000 blood samples taken from volunteers from January 2 to March 18, 2020. Antibodies to the SARS-Cov-2 virus were detected in nine of them, and they appeared only two weeks after infection.
The first positive samples came from subjects in the US states of Illinois and Massachusetts, which were taken on January 7 and 8, 2020, respectively. This indicates that the victims were infected with the virus by the end of December, according to researchers. Until now, New York and Seattle were considered the gateways to the virus.
“Antibody tests help us better understand the spread of SARS-Cov-2 in the United States during the early stages of the epidemic, when test options are limited,” said Kerry Altaf, an epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins University. The U.S. Health Authority CDC came to similar conclusions as the NIH in November last year.
